After an unseasonably warm start to January, winter seems to have finally arrived in Virginia. With snow in the forecast for many of our communities, we thought it would be good to review some tips for removing snow and ice. Please note that many of the streets in our communities are maintained by VDOT and as such VDOT provides for snow removal. Additionally, our communities are not typically responsible for snow and ice removal from homeowners’ driveways and sidewalks.
Here are some tips to help you remove snow and ice:
- Weather.com provides background and advice on various tools to help remove snow and ice, including snow blowers and chemicals: http://www.weather.com/activities/homeandgarden/home/hometips/severeweather/snow_removal.html.
- Popular Mechanics takes a look at the science behind snow shoveling and offers 16 cardinal rules: http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/improvement/outdoor-projects/16-cardinal-rules-for-snow-shovelling.
Snow can be beautiful and fun for kids of all ages, but hopefully these tips can help you remove snow and ice this winter.
