Memorial Day is fast approaching and there’s so much to do over this long holiday weekend! As the unofficial beginning of summer, there are many fun events outdoors as we enjoy the warmer weather and longer days. There are tons of great Memorial Day events and family-friendly activities all weekend long. Here are our top Memorial Day weekend events in Richmond and Williamsburg:
- Friday Cheers: Kick off the weekend right with the Friday Cheers concert. Located in the heart of downtown Richmond, Friday Cheers is a summer institution and great way to enjoy live music with friends and neighbors. This week’s lineup includes RVA Music Night featuring People’s Blues of Richmond, Angelica Garcia, and Ohbliv. To get more information and tickets, visit the Friday Cheers website.
- Sandston Memorial Day Parade: There are few things as patriotic as a Memorial Day parade. Celebrate the holiday at Sandston’s Memorial Day Parade and Celebration from 12pm – 4pm on Monday, May 29th in Henrico County. This historic town marks Memorial Day with a Veterans Recognition Ceremony, parade, and festival. To learn more, visit the Henrico County website.
- Fifes and Drums of York Town: Get in the patriotic and colonial spirit with the fife and drum procession in Yorktown. The historic area will transport you back to the Colonial era with this special procession on Saturday, May 27th at 4pm and Memorial Day at 11:45am. Visit Yorktown’s website for more information. Plus, if you want to stay in the colonial mindset, you’re only minutes from Colonial Williamsburg.
- Movie Under the Stars: This Saturday is the latest installment of James City County’s “Movie Under the Stars” program. Always a favorite, families bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks to enjoy the movie outdoors at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. This week’s feature presentation will be “Brave.” To learn more, visit the event webpage.
The best part about all of these events is that they’re close to our communities in Richmond and Williamsburg. We believe it’s how you live that matters, which is why we create communities that are conveniently located to top amenities and destinations, including shopping, dining, recreation facilities, parks, top-ranked schools, employment centers, and more!
