Free and Fun Resources for Children Staying Home

The outbreak of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) in the United States has altered the lives of millions of American families, including those in our master planned communities. This is an unprecedented time in our nation’s history, and we will weather the storm and emerge stronger than ever. In the meantime, we’ve compiled a list of free resources for families with children home from school. This can be an opportunity to spend time as a family learning together, and these wonderful resources can help:

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

The VMFA has put together a variety of free educational resources for educators and families. You can explore over 50,000 works of art from all over the world and take part in interactive learning activities from your home.

Scholastic

Scholastic has launched Learn at Home, a free resource with over 20 days of activities and reading exercises for PreK-Grade 9 students. Families can read books from Scholastic’s extensive library, watch videos and test themselves on what they have learned.

Audible

Audible Stories offers families access to hundreds of free books. From toddlers to teens, you can enjoy some of the greatest literary classics and popular recent titles as well.

Virginia Memory

Virginia Memory is a digital resource from the Library of Virginia. It includes thousands of print materials, manuscripts, newspapers, photographs, and more around specific subject matters relevant to the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Met

The Metropolitan Opera in New York has launched Live in HD, a free streaming service allowing families to gather and watch some of the most beloved operas from the comfort of their own home.

Have others? Let us know! We can continue to update this list as more and more free resources become available.

At HHHunt Communities, we believe it’s how you live that matters, and making life-long memories with family members and friends is at the heart of that. We hope these resources are helpful in bringing some joy to your family during a difficult time. We will get through this.
