When it comes to new home design trends, 2016 was the year of comfort and creativity. This year is all about function in your home with the help of smart home technology and thinking outside-of-the-box. Let’s take a look at three home design trends that you’ll see in 2017!
- Extra Space: Coming up with unique areas in your home for extra space and storage will be a trend in 2017. With some creativity, homeowners are now converting unused areas into functional spaces. Not sure what to do with the extra space above your kitchen cabinets? Buyers are now interested in stacked kitchen cabinets that eliminate the “wasted” space and create more storage opportunities. In addition, higher ceilings, office nooks, larger islands, and mudrooms will be on the rise.
- Smart Home Technology: Today’s buyers are searching for smart home features for personal security, convenience, and entertainment purposes. In fact, according to the 2015 Smart Home Report, by 2022, a typical family home will contain more than 500 smart home devices. Surround sound, cameras and intercoms, which are all accessible on an app, will be more prevalent in 2017.
- Convenience: Convenience is key in 2017. Be on the lookout for home appliances that ease everyday tasks, especially in the bathroom and kitchen. Hands-free motion-censored faucets, where you hover your hand over the faucet to turn it on or off, are going to become more popular. In addition, handy appliances, such as shower heads where you can customize the temperature and pressure per person in the household, will be seen more in homes.
We believe it’s how you live that matters, and it’s great to see our homeowners creating lasting memories with friends, loved ones, and neighbors in their homes. We love seeing all the creativity and look forward to what trends our homeowners have in store in 2017! What are some home trends that you’re interested in implementing into your space?
