The holidays have arrived in Richmond! It really is the most wonderful time of the year in the River City with great family-friendly activities for every age. This year, we’ve put together this helpful guide to help you navigate all the holiday happenings across the Richmond region.
Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights has become an annual tradition for tens of thousands of area families. This year’s theme is “Magic in the Air” and is inspired by things that fly including fireflies, flying pigs, spaceships and unicorns which take flight across the Garden, suspended on radiant wings of light. This year, commemorating the first manned mission to land on the Moon, there’s even an astronaut made of lights. GardenFest runs through January 6, 2020 but is closed December 24-25.
King’s Dominion’s WinterFest: WinterFest is another annual event where the entire park is transformed into an enchanted winter wonderland for classic family fun. The festive, family-friendly event includes millions of holiday lights, a 300-foot tree, live performances, hands-on activities and crafting, and special holiday inspired foods and deserts. The best part is that most of the rides are still open so you can enjoy those as well. WinterFest runs through January 1, 2020.
Holiday Merriment at Maymont: Step back in-time with Holiday Merriment at Maymont. During December, the Victorian-era estate and house are transformed for the holiday season. Visitors can see and explore what the holiday season was like in the late 1800s with live performances, guided tours, workshops, refreshments and more! Maymont is a treasured destination for Richmond residents with 100-acres of gardens, animal exhibits and educational events. Holiday Merriment runs through January 5, 2020.
Richmond Ballet’s The Nutcracker: Enjoy a beloved holiday tradition with The Nutcracker. The Richmond Ballet begins performances on December 13th in the Carpenter Theater at the Dominion Energy Center. This timeless classic follows Clara on an extraordinary journey from a battle beneath the branches of a magical Christmas tree, through an enchanted snowy forest, to the Kingdom of Sweets. Performances run through December 23, 2019.
At HHHunt Communities, we believe it’s how you live that matters and spending time with friends and family during the holiday season is at the heart of that belief. Happy holidays!
